The Ryding siblings are a prime example.

Alex, Sam, Rory and Katie had their travel arrangements and match passes booked for the fourth and fifth Tests "12 months ago", hoping to witness a long-awaited triumph.

Instead, they have watched Australia defeat England convincingly in just 11 days from their residence in their hometown.

"People in the office has been teasing me that the series is done for the last two weeks," stated Sam Ryding.

"Our expectation had been that we would have something to play for upon our arrival."

Diminishing Hope

Optimism was high concerning a potential victory of ending their 15-year wait for a victory down under before it began.

However, the situation is now looking at the possibility of continuing a barren spell in the country to 19 games when the next match starts in the MCG on Christmas Day.

Ben Stokes' side - and their supporters - will be keen to prevent a dreaded 5-0 scoreline.

It was mentioned that the "thrill and enjoyment" of head coach the positive style of play in the past couple of seasons had "brought fresh energy to" the five-day game for followers of the team.

However, the group said they had low expectations for the fourth and fifth Tests - and all they are requesting from the players is "some resilience".

"Every pundit points it out, but it all comes down to psychological strength. 'This style has been elevated to a term now that is just, like, nonsense cricket," stated Rory Ryding.

"Over the course of five days, you should dig in. Wafting outside 'outside the line has not been part of the textbooks, and that is primarily due to the frontline batsmen."

The Remaining Matches

Asked whether he believed England will win a match in this contest, Sam said: "The evidence suggests the hosts are a stronger side currently."

"Necessarily, there must be more than one player that makes a significant contribution and produces a match-winning display."

Despite the scoreline, the siblings are still looking forward to the trip.

"It will be a great time nonetheless," said Katie. "We have to go with that attitude."

"Naturally, it's disappointing we aren't fighting for more, but we have invested a significant amount already."

"We will make the most of celebrating the holidays overseas. This will be our first experience abroad during the festive period."

An educator, Katie is intent on maximizing the lengthy journey as part of her seasonal break.

"As a backup plan, I can play golf to rely on," she finished.
